* January 1, 2018 - Illinois Department of Revenue Tax Liens

Effective January 1, 2018, all Illinois Department of Revenue liens will be filed into a new statewide tax lien registry system and will no longer be recorded with County Recorder offices. This registry will be accessible, and searchable, from any location or device with internet access. The registry will provide access to all state liens and lien releases issued since January 1, 2018, as well as to all active (unreleased) state liens issued during the 20 years preceding the establishment of this registry.

You may visit the online registry by clicking Here, or by going to the Illinois Department of Revenue's website at tax.illinois.gov and choosing the "Lien Registry" link on the left side of the page.

Here are some tips for using the State Lien Registry system:

  • If you know your Lien ID or FEIN #, enter it into the appropriate field on the search page. Then press the enter key or click anywhere on the page and the Search button will appear.
  • If you don’t have a Lien ID or FEIN #, for best results, search by name (business name or first and last name if an individual).
  • All searches other than by Lien ID or FEIN # will require selection of the County or Statewide Search option.
  • Releases, if issued, will be located by using the same information used when searching for the lien itself.
